DIVING STREET.

16 Motober, 1926.

I have the honour to acknowled, the receipt of your Confidential despatch of the 19th of August

forwarding a enpy of a petition from a muter of senior

officers in the service of the Hang Bong Governant asking for a relaxation of the present rules regarding the grant of leave and passos.

2. I approve your recommendation that the

qualifying period for the grant of les duced from 41 to 4 yours.

should be re-

3. I am also prepared to approve some concession

to make it easier for officers who have attained the ng

of 45 years to take lears after 2 years resident service, although it does not appear to me desirable in such

enace that officera should be relieved a tirely of the

cast of pa seną 3.

In view of the considerations which

are advanced in our despatch and the petition I should be prepared to approve a rule b, which the share of the

enst of subh an officers passed, which under the present rules, as modified in accordance with paragraph 2 of thin despatch, would be paid by the officer should in future be divided between him and the Government, e.g. after 3 years resident service the Goverment would pay even eights of

GOVERTOR.
